If you teach crafting or are just an enthusiast willing to share your knowledge, mBooks are the perfect vehicle. Combine video and photo how-to’s to your heart’s content. Add an audio podcast where you personally explain technique. Embed separate .pdf materials lists and link to websites where supplies may be purchased.

Anyone who enjoys a good mystery knows there are clues everywhere. Embedding a video of your murderer can reveal body language, speech patterns and other tipoffs to solve the mystery. You could even keep him secret but build an identity for him with a Twitter page, a website and planted clues throughout the Internet. Or what if you were reading the book and flipped the page to see a 2-page spread of the library – complete with clues which act like a hidden object game? Could you come up with dual endings?

If you are in education, you can appreciate that people learn in different ways. Paper textbooks are limited and often you can only purchase updated versions every ten years or so. Converting your book to an mBook brings in splendid color, music and sounds, video learning, built-in quizzes which can be emailed to the teacher and even show multiple languages in layers on the same page. When history changes or a new discovery makes your book outdated — it can be easily updated and the next copy for the student is current and reflects our changing times.

How about publishing your cookbook as an mBook?  Many people now keep laptops handy in the kitchen for researching recipes. Your cookbook can have not only the ingredients listed on the page, but on a separate print-out that can be taken to the grocery. Show special techniques like whipping eggs with a hand beater in an embedded video. Add the sound of frying chicken to make that recipe more enticing. Include a calculator that adjusts the ingredient amounts to accommodate more portions.

If your purpose is to educate, whether it’s a casual visitor or a customer, why not include a video tutorial?

Videos can be embedded or streamed in from a server, depending on whether you want your customer to be able to view it any time, or only when connected live to the Internet. The benefit in streaming is that it keeps the file size smaller for the mBook. The benefit in having it embedded is that your customer need not be connected to the web to view it.
